The institutional relationships of the Doctoral School

The cornerstone of progress in academic research is cooperation, which takes place through joint projects, learning about each other’s successes and problems, as well as in the form of consultations and correspondence. The basis of these relationships is mutual professional respect, which may also result in joint grants. We encourage our doctoral students to attend domestic and international conferences as often as possible.

The development of international relations is of paramount importance within the activities of the Doctoral School. It is possible for our students to participate in study-abroad programmes whereby they can get acquainted with research workshops abroad.

In the course of the research activities carried out in the Doctoral School, doctoral students and their supervisors also regularly get into contact with partner research institutes and higher education institutions in Hungary and abroad. As a result of the conference presentations and publications resulting from such joint research, the academic embeddedness of researchers, both domestically and internationally, will increase and its reputation will improve.

The Doctoral School regularly welcomes visiting lecturers from Hungarian and foreign research institutes and universities. Some of the special lectures they deliver provide insights into the latest academic achievements in a narrower specialisation or field of research. In addition, several lectures have been given in the past academic years in the Doctoral School that conveyed knowledge to the audience on general research methodology and publication skills. The aim of such lectures is to enable PhD students and their supervisors to assist in the preparation of publications that may later be published in prestigious international journals (with Q1-Q4 impact factors). In addition to some leading researchers of the most prestigious Hungarian research institutes and universities, in recent years, we were also able to host American, Polish and Romanian visiting lecturers in the courses of the Doctoral School.

With the help of the international research collaborations of the Doctoral School, the faculty members and researchers concerned are able to carry out international comparative studies within the framework of the research conducted here. Thanks to the analyses carried out in this way, data collected in Hungary in the framework of primary research can also be compared with similar data from other countries, also including from outside the European Union.

An essential condition for international academic cooperation is that the parties involved in it have good professional English language skills. In order to ensure this, the Doctoral School encourages PhD students to further develop their language proficiency, by way of providing them with appropriate support.

Below we present our most important Hungarian and international partnerships, the range of which is constantly expanding.
